A thermocouple temperature sensor measures temperature from the voltage generated at the junction of two dissimilar metals. Thermocouples withstand high temperatures and vibration and respond quickly – ideal for furnaces, kilns, dryers and flue gas. ISE supplies type E, J, K, N and T thermocouples in simplex, duplex and triplex versions, including ATEX/IECEx models – to the European standard EN 60584-1.

Thermocouple tolerance per EN 60584-1
Type K class 1: ±1.5 °C or ±0.004·|t| (−40 … 1,000 °C); class 2: ±2.5 °C or ±0.0075·|t| (−40 … 1,200 °C), whichever is greater. Thermocouples use classes 1 and 2 – classes A, B and 1/3 DIN apply to Pt100 only.
Wiring and cold-junction compensation
Use the matching extension cable (type K: green per EN 60584-3) with correct polarity; the instrument must provide cold-junction compensation. For long runs use a 4–20 mA temperature transmitter.
