Capacitive Level Sensor – Continuous 4–20 mA, up to 200 °C

A capacitive level sensor uses a probe inside the tank: as the liquid level changes, the capacitance between probe and tank wall changes and is converted to 4–20 mA or 0–10 V. No moving parts, probe rated up to 200 °C, 1 % accuracy, IP67 – ideal for boiler water level, tanks and vessels. ISE supplies it in line with European EN 61326-1 and EN 60529.

How a capacitive level sensor works

Capacitive level and optical level switch principles
Capacitive level and optical level switch principles

Probe and tank wall (or reference tube) form a capacitor. Liquids have a higher dielectric constant than air (water εr ≈ 80), so capacitance rises linearly with level. Set 0 % and 100 % on the actual liquid.
